Sliding Doors: Even More Restaurant Openings and Closures in Vancouver in Fall 2025

If New York is the city that never sleeps, Vancouver is the city that never stops teasing our tastebuds.

Last week, our heads were spinning with all the city’s eateries either closing or opening. Just when we thought we had a minute to digest it all (pun very much intended), we were hit with some more gastrinomical news!

Restaurants Closing in Vancouver

Unfortunately, the spot at 2650 Main St. which changed from El Gato Gab Gab to Mojo Cantina-Izakaya has swung its doors shut, then open, then shut again. The future of the Boxset Collective spot now remains uncertain.

In other bad news, El Compa Cocina Mexicana, a fresh, authentic Mexican eatery from team behind the much-loved (but also closed) Aleph Eatery, has closed after just eight months of service. Plant-based legends, Mila, will also be closing its doors on November 14 after five years in Chinatown.

Potluck Hawker Eatery has also shuttered, serving up its final rice bowls and fried chicken sandwiches on October 19.

Now Open or Opening Soon in Vancouver

Saving the best news for last, we’re thrilled to see Mortadella is now open for business, serving up Italian-style sandwiches and pizzas, from Tuesday to Sunday.

Fred’s Restaurant in Kitsilano is also open as of the end of this month. The West Vancouver favourite will now be a Vancouver-proper mainstay with its signature Italian fare, which includes cured meats and dishes like cacio e pepe.

Also in Kitsilano, hand-roll sushi and tempura joint Kagura will be opening its doors soon, but the mysterious eatery has only hinted at an opening date so far.

Finally, La Taqueria will debut its hotly anticipated offshoot, Pinche Taco Shop, on the corner of Seymour and West Hastings on November 3, serving up regional traditional tacos and a killer cocktail program by Vancouver Magazine’s 2025 Bartender of The Year, Tara Davies.

Let’s eat!
