1. Awaken Chinatown

Now through Summer

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is kicking off its popular Enchanted Evening Series for the season. Expect a variety of musical and cultural performances throughout the summer, ranging from blues to hip hop to flamenco world music. All of the performances aim to bring attention to Chinatown’s rich cultural arts community.

2. Gem-Like/Spooky Action

May 25 – May 28

Inspired by Einstein’s famous phrase referring to particles that are so closely linked, they share the same existence, Inverso Production’s Gem-Like/Spooky Action combines dance with an engaging narrative to investigate all of the mysterious ways that we intersect in each other’s lives. Expect graceful modern dance, poetic storytelling and original composition.

3. rEvolver Festival

May 25 – June 5

rEvolver Festival is back for its 10th year with 12 days of unconventional live performances, digital productions, staged readings, dialogues and workshops. The multi-format arts festival has a lot of focus this year on the theme of interdependence and the importance of regaining a sense of togetherness and a need to find community. Expect interactive performances from emerging artist that hail from all over Canada.

4. Steveston Spot Prawn and Seafood Celebration

May 18 – June 5

The first-ever Steveston Spot Prawn and Seafood Celebration is now underway. This festival features fresh and live dock sales of BC spot prawns and other sustainable seafood–plus a special ocean-to plate Dine About series. This series features local restaurants (think Oo La Cha or Little Mexico Cantina) that have partnered with Steveston Fishermen to serve exclusive spot prawn dishes that are only available during this program.

5. Yellow Fever

May 28 – June 12

The Firehall Arts Centre is closing its 2021-2022 Reunion Season with the presentation of Yellow Fever, an award-winning comic mystery that follows a private eye as he investigates the disappearance of the mysterious ‘Cherry Blossom Queen’. Set on Powell Street in the 1970s, the show explores political intrigue, racism and police corruption—just as timely today as it was when it was written thirty-four years ago.
