Restaurant Awards 2026: Best African and Diaspora Restaurants in Vancouver

These are the best restaurants specializing in the cuisines of African, Caribbean and beyond.

Gold: Moltaqa

Moving from its roots on West Hastings, Moltaqa has found its tempo in Yaletown, where the cozy restaurant brimming with comforting spices and indulgent fare can be enjoyed leisurely—if you can find parking. “Every dish has really improved since that era and some dishes now are at a whole new level, such as the chicken pastilla and flambé rack of lamb,” wrote one judge, and we’re inclined to agree. The restaurant decor and ambiance greatly reflect Moroccan culture—silver and brassware with the flame of tealights flickering out; patterned, geometric Moroccan rugs; velvet accents and Moroccan music permeate the environment. Secondary only to the food is the theatrics and entertainment you’ll find at the African restaurant: with live flambéed dishes brought straight to your table, and belly dancing on the weekends.

Silver: Kilimanjaro

Taking home silver in the diverse African and Diaspora category is East African Ismaili restaurant Kilimanjaro, a hybrid restaurant and marketplace in Fraserhood featuring daily rotating menu items like crispy samosas, mogo and kebabs that boast a distinctly fresh feel—“even in dishes like curry that would normally take a long time to cook.”
