Every year, the Dine Out Vancouver (January 17-February 4) participating restaurant list goes live, and every year, we’re overwhelmed. There’s almost 400 local restaurants included in the extraordinary culinary lineup—that means almost 400 options for great food and great deals. Where do you even start?
Here’s an idea: why not cross-reference the Dine Out 2024 list with the list of Vanmag’s Restaurant Award winners? That way, you can check out what dishes the winning-est restaurants have on offer.
Oh, right. No need. We did it for you. We completed the Dine Out/Restaurant Awards venn diagram and came up with a list of 11 restaurants that fit the bill.
Here’s every RA winner (gold, silver or bronze) that’s participating in Dine Out 2024.
Maenam earned gold in the Best Thai category of our awards, and chef Angus An is serving lunch and dinner for Dine Out. Lunch is $42 for two courses (with an optional $8 dessert option) and the three-course dinner is priced at $65 per person. Both menus are family-style, with share plates like grilled Thai sausage, Tom Kha coconut mushroom soup, pork rib stir fry and mushroom curry. In total the dinner has 18 options—find them all here.
Arike won the silver in the Best African and Caribbean category of the 2023 Restaurant Awards. For Dine Out, they’re offering a $65 six-course tasting menu (!) with dishes like pineapple carpaccio, scallop crudo, potato risotto and beef cheek with pain perdu, bok choy and chutney. There’s a veggie option, too. Here’s more info.
L’Abattoir won silver in the super-competitive Best Contemporary category of our 2023 Restaurant Awards. Their $65 Dineout offer includes three courses—appetizer, dinner, dessert, you know the drill—with options like pumpkin and ricotta gnocchi, european sea bass and pork and chicken pithivier (psst: that’s a meat pie). Monarca Cocina Mexicana earned silver in the Best Latin American category of our awards. For Dine Out Vancouver, the $55 three-course dinner comes with optional wine pairings that vary from $7 to $13 a glass. On the menu is aguachile rojo, suadero tacos and pescada a la talla (and churros of course). Find the full menu here.
And right behind Monarca, there’s Ophelia—they took home the bronze in Latin American last year (and their tacos are on our list of 24 Things to Eat and Drink in 2024, too). The Dine Out menu is $55, three courses and includes dishes like tostada di ceviche, ling cod al pastor and marinated skirt steak tacos. Taco bout it more here.
Brunch fave Zarak by Afghan Kitchen won bronze in the Middle Eastern category of the Restaurant Awards. Their Dine Out Vancouver offer includes—you guessed it—brunch: there’s a $30 deal for an eggs benny flight that comes with karak chai (black tea, condensed and evaporated milk and tea biscuits). Dine Out dinner is also served; the $55 three-course menu offers beets and burrata, braised lamb shank, Brussels sprouts with red pepper hummus and more. Here’s the complete menu.
This Gastown cafe took home the gold in 2023’s inaugural Best B.C. Wine List category, and they’re offering both brunch and dinner deals for Dine Out. The $29 brunch is three courses and the menu includes options like dulce de leche waffles, and the $39 three-course dinner menu has rigatoni alla bolognese and pan-seared salmon with warm mustard-tarragon potato salad on offer. Cactus has long been a ringer in our Best Chain category, and last year’s competition was no exception. The industry giant won gold in 2023, and 18 locations are participating in the 2024 Dine Out menu. The Coal Harbour location, for example, is serving a three-course dinner menu for $50 (think entree choices like truffle parmesan chicken, grilled chimichurri steak and the med bowl). Hot on Cactus’s heels is La Taqueria, the taco-rific chain that earned silver in our awards. Three locations plus the food truck are participating in Dine Out 2024. The Yukon location has a $35 deal on for lunch and dinner: there’s tuna tartare, enchiladas verdes and carlota (Mexican-style key lime pie) on the menu. Unwrap it all here.
Another chain winner: Lebanese fave Nuba took home the bronze in Best Chain in our 2023 Restaurant Awards. Four Nuba locations are doing Dine Out this year. A peek at the Kits location’s menu reveals a $38 three-course dinner with options like cauliflower turmeric dip, beef fatteh and pomegranate and oatmeal rose cookies. More information here.
Last, but for sure, definitely, absolutely not least, there’s Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar—the gold winner of Best Upscale in the 2023 Restaurant Awards. The three-course, $65 Dine Out Vancouver dinner menu includes albacore tuna with shiso and nori crackers, housemade roasted butternut squash cavatelli and slow-cooked Brant Lake wagyu stiletto (okay, that one’s an extra $5… but considering more than half of the regular-price entrees at Boulevard are over $40, this is still a screamin’ deal).
