Daan Go Cake Lab to Open New Spot in Vancouver this August

We round up our must-try sweets from the new South Granville location.

Here’s another thing to look forward to in August: Asian bakery and café Daan Go Cake Lab will be opening a brand new location in Vancouver on August 15. Opened by MasterChef Canada winner Christopher Siu, Daan Go Cake Lab currently boasts five locations in Vancouver and Toronto combined—and now a sixth will be opening on South Granville.

Daan Go Cake Lab first opened its Richmond location in 2023, and has become a go-to spot for specialty cakes. The bakery offers a variety of uniquely-shaped cakes, such as roasted pigs, durian and even an intricate bowl of ramen. The bakery’s macarons are also adorable, shaped to look like different animals including pandas and frogs.

It’s easy to get lost amongst all of Daan Go Cake Lab’s offerings, so in celebration of its upcoming opening, we’ve rounded up the must-buy pastries when you visit in August.

Black Sesame Croissant ($6)

Just when you thought there was no other way to elevate the classic croissant (besides adding almonds and chocolate), Daan Go Cake Lab serves up a buttery croissant with a decadent black sesame paste at its core. The paste leans towards nutty, resulting in a harmonious blend of savoury and sweet housed inside one flaky pastry.

Lucky Duck ($9)

Bath time has never looked so enticing: layers of fluffy almond sponge, rich pistachio cream and lemon curd fill up a mini bathtub for a zesty yet earthy kick. Don’t forget your white-chocolate ducky—handpainted with edible gold, of course.

Ramen Bowl ($9)

We’re clamouring for dessert ramen to be a thing—housed in a chocolate ramen bowl, pudding noodles sit prettily amongst a subtly sweet coffee jelly broth. Dig a little deeper and you’ll find chiffon cubes layered with caramel syrup and diced caramelized pears.

Hong Kong Milk Tea Ice Cream ($11)

Alongside cakes and pastries, the bakery also sells smooth, creamy pints of ice cream—perfect for the summer. There are 13 different flavours such as matcha, Vietnamese coffee and cherry sakura, but the Hong Kong Milk Tea is our go-to. It’s robust with a touch of sweetness from the use of condensed milk, and the actual boba pearls nestled within the velvety ice cream are a nice touch.

Daan Go Cake Lab will be opening at 1450 W 7th Ave. on August 15.

For sweets enthusiasts, you can visit their Richmond location at 4731 Garden City Rd.
