Breaking: Le Crocodile by Rob Feenie Set to Officially Open

The contemporary French restaurant will open its doors June 25.

Earlier this year we announced Michel Jacob’s “adieu” to famed Vancouver restaurant Le Crocodile—and with it veteran chef Rob Feenie’s buzzy takeover of the famed French kitchen.

Now, we can officially say: the doors will re-open on June 25 with a Feenie at the helm. The kitchen team boasts a pretty stacked cast: including chef de cuisine Marc Marayag (previously of Bar Susu, Umu),  award-winning Wendy Boys as consulting executive pastry chef and Mark Pugsley who is returning as pastry chef.

Plus, we have a sneak peek at the contemporary menu which will lean into Feenie’s French-meets-west-coast culinary style. Think classics like steak tartare with grilled levain, escargot de Bourgogne (with Pernod parsley garlic butter and a baguette from Small Victory), Dover sole (deboned table side and served with fine herbes and a caper buerre blanc) and grilled veal tenderloin medallion with a classic Le Crocodile morel sauce.

Feenie’s seasonal creations may include items like kobujime hamachi (with white soy, yuzu, chili and celery ice), a red and green endive salad (with apples, roquefort, candied walnuts and honey viniagrette) and Hokkaido scallops and prawns in a tomato saffron broth.

The dining room itself has been completely re-designed by David Hepworth of SITU Design. The 80-seat restaurant (plus a 24-seat patio) now features fresh millwork, plush velvet banquette seating, a semi-private alcove and fresh touches like faux-croc embossing on wicker-backed seats.

“Everything has come full circle. I first stepped inside Le Crocodile at the age of 23, not knowing if cooking was my future. Now I’ll be stepping inside the restaurant as its co-owner and executive chef,” says Feenie.

Upon launch, Le Crocodile by Rob Feenie will be open Tuesday through Saturday for dinner service, with lunch service to come soon.
