And the pop-ups just keep coming! But hey, I’m not complaining, because it’s another opportunity to have some face time with makers who’ve made their passion into a business. And the results speak for themselves, in carefully crafted pieces you won’t find sold in the hundreds at your local mall or tagged on every Instagramer’s newsfeed. Pop-ups are a chance to go back to a time when things were made and bought with purpose, and support the people fronting this movement. And this one also includes wine!
The Sip, Snack, Shop pop-up event will be held at the Lulu Island Winery in Richmond. It’s a great opportunity to support local small businesses and purchase unique, slow-made items, created with intention. There are twenty-three vendors confirmed and more to come, and the goods include home décor, jewellery, plants, clothing and even small-batch hot sauces. There will also be wine tastings offered (and an opportunity to buy the ones you like, of course).
This is the second pop-up that Lulu Island Winery has hosted this summer, following the success of their July 17 event. “The whole drive behind the event, really, is connecting the local community with all the amazing vendors that the Lower Mainland has to offer, and we figured that this was the best way to do so,” says Carlynn Overbury, marketing and events coordinator at Lulu Island Winery.

The event is free, and folks are encouraged to bring family and friends (furry ones included). Don’t forget a picnic blanket to relax after shopping under the 50-meter Grapevine Tunnel, where you can drink your wine, eat your food and listen to the musical talents of Emilio Suarez and Taylor Joel.
The winery is planning several similar events throughout the rest of the year to continue connecting the community, with an autumn harvest planned for September 25 and a multi-weekend Christmas market in December, so keep your eyes peeled.
Here are some of the local businesses that you’ll have the chance to check out at the Lulu Island Winery Saturday, August 21 from 12:00 pm to 5:00pm.

Pampas Grass & Dried Flowers
These are simplistic, timeless and more of a bang for your buck, because they last. Dried flowers make me feel sophisticated, OK?
