The Best Bridal Hairstyles for a Spring Wedding in Vancouver

Hair and makeup is arguably one of the toughest decisions brides will make. Should you wear your hair up or down? Should you commit to a bold lip, or stick to your regular makeup routine? While brides should ultimately choose a look that honours their individual personality, we asked local hair and makeup artists to share the styles that will be trending in 2022. Here’s what they had to say.

1. Messy Chignons 

Talia Joyce, owner of Talia Joyce Artistry Collective, says brides should consider textured up-dos for spring and summer weddings. “Loose up-dos with lots of tendrils are a personal favourite because they look beautiful and keep you cooler during the warmer months,” she says. The best part about this relaxed hairstyle? Since it depends on wispy face-framing pieces, you don’t have to worry if anything falls out of place throughout the day. The messier it gets, the more romantic it looks.

2. Accessorized Half Up-Dos 

“Hair accessories will definitely be on trend this spring—especially cute pins and clips with pearls or sparkles,” says Suzanna Chun, principal artist and founder of New Westminster’s Tori Blush. While you can choose to accessorize a bun or ponytail, Chun recommends opting for loose waves instead: “The style is perfect for brides who don’t normally wear their hair up, and want to feel more like themselves on their wedding day.” 

The team at Save the Date Beauty agrees. “Loose waves pulled into a romantic, low half up-do is our all-time favourite look,” says founders Kristy and Shaina. “A delicate hair vine or a few special pins add a little extra sparkle.”

3. Glam Waves 

Some wedding hairstyles will never stop trending—including soft, bouncy blowouts and voluminous curls. But even these classic, glamourous looks evolve with the times. 

For the 2022 season, The Lolita Collective is anticipating brides will want to take a more natural approach: “Modern Hollywood waves have been a popular request during bridal trials,” says lead artist and owner Via Alejandre. You can keep the look simple with a deep side part, but many are choosing to complete the style with a dainty hair accessory.

1. Dewy Complexions

“Glowy, effortless makeup highlights your natural beauty,” says Joyce, crediting celebs like Hailey Bieber and Billie Eilish for making the subtle look so popular. Soft, neutral shades (think brown eye pencil instead of black liquid liner) and hydrating foundation are essential, but brides might also want to consider false, flirty lashes. “Try individuals instead of strips,” suggests Joyce. “In my opinion, individual lashes are more natural—you can add as few or as many as you want to achieve your desired look.”

Alejandre also thinks this look will be big for the spring wedding season. “Brides are requesting natural-yet-more-than-your-average day-to-day makeup, with glowing skin being the main focus,” she says.

2. Soft Pink Highlights 

Chun says blush will always be on trend, but that it will likely be used to highlight more than cheeks—including the tip of the nose—in 2022. Of course, there are plenty of other ways to incorporate this romantic shade into a makeup look: think shimmering pink eyeshadow (“MAC’s All That Glitters is a cult favourite”) and soft pink lip gloss.

Kristy and Shaina are fans of this look as well. “We love nude eyes with tones that make a bride’s eye colour pop: soft pinks, browns and bronzes for a bright, clean and natural look.”

3. Warm, Matte Palettes

Makeup can be intimidating—especially if your everyday routine consists of little more than mascara. But brides can pull off a more dramatic look and still be able to recognize themselves in the mirror. “In terms of colours, I’m finding warm undertones such as caramel and coffee being favoured by most brides,” says Alejandre. 

If you want to go for the ever-popular smokey eye? Opt for matte over metallic shadows. “The Tartelette In Bloom palette has become a staple in our makeup kits,” says Chun. “It has a great balance of bold matte tones to shimmer tones, perfect for creating natural glam looks.”
