Restaurant Awards 2026: The Best Casual Restaurants in Vancouver

Laid-back environment, world-class food.

Gold: Argo Cafe

In Vancouver, “casual” is a lie we tell ourselves. It starts as “just a quick bite,” then several coffees later you’ve fully moved into your booth and you’re speaking to the server like you share a mortgage. Gold winner Argo Cafe earns it by doing the neighbourhood-diner thing with real care: judges called it “just about the perfect neighbourhood diner,” with “love, generosity” and food that lands: duck confit pancakes, fried chicken and waffles, slow-simmered soups that taste like someone actually waited.

Silver: Fat Mao

Silver winner Fat Mao keeps things loud in the best way, with vibrant bowls, clean heat and the right sour notes, plus “no compromises on ‘funkiness’ either.”

Bronze: Northern Cafe

Bronze winner Northern Cafe is the South Van pilgrimage that pays you back immediately, especially if you’re there at 8 a.m. for wontons and the breakfast bunwich.
