New Commissary Kitchen in Vancouver Flips the “Skript” on Gluten-Free Cooking

The Skript Kitchen run by chef Renee Chan makes gluten-free food production easier (and more fun) than ever.

Long gone are the days when gluten-free substitutions were a nuisance to wait staff and bakery counters. These days, you can find GF options on nearly any menu (or coffee shop counter) in the city, effectively staving off gluten-induced headaches and stomach issues (we can thank the hospitality gods for that).

The Skript Kitchen, a new commissary kitchen run by chef Renée Chan is making it all the more easy with its new, 3,500 square-foot, dedicated gluten-free commissary kitchen for food producers and catering companies in Olympic Village.

“I am excited to finally open the doors to The Skript Kitchen,” Chan, who also founded Ah Nui Asian Foods, a food product company that makes pantry staples without the use of added sugars or gluten, wrote in a release.

The space will welcome purveyors such as House of Yee Fine Foods, Ah Nui Asian Foods (see above), The Indian Pantry by chef Tushar Tondvalkar and Galloway’s Wholesome Foods to use the shared kitchen, plus play host to a series of cooking classes.

“I’m especially thrilled to have the front of our space be dedicated to education and dialogue on food and health,” Chan said, mentioning folks should “stay tuned–this is only the beginning.”

Upcoming cooking classes at the new space include learning to bake mooncakes, a matcha-whisking and sweet treats workshop, Indian cooking and making har gao and siu mai from scratch.
