El Gato Gab Gab may be the kind of place where you need to ask for extra napkins to accompany the chicken skin chilaquiles, and the margaritas are the self-proclaimed cheapest on Main Street, but we suppose there is a world where you might find yourself craving Mexican food in an even more casual environment. Well, good news: starting on Thursday, you can just head right next door to find the taco takeout joint of your dreams.

Taco Loma quietly soft opened a few weeks ago but it makes its grand debut to the neighbourhood on June 26. The compact burrito bar takes inspiration from Mexico City’s street food scene, and features a menu that keeps things simple: think brisket burritos, pork belly tacos, slushy margs and house-made chips and salsa. (Look out, Budgie’s.)

Loma is intended to primarily be a takeout counter, but there are a few indoor seats and a “parklet patio” if you can’t wait to get home to go to town on a cheesy chorizo burrito. Some pretty compelling opening day specials—$3 tacos and $5 slushy margaritas—could be an enticing reason to pull up a spot in the sun and stay a while. But whatever. It’s casual.

Taco Loma, 2652 Main St.
Open Tuesday to Sunday
