La Quercia (Gold) takes down this highly competitive category, nailing the “cozy, cheap-and-cheerful, neighbourhood vibe” and serving up “some of the best pasta dishes in the city—the agnolotti di Bruno is unforgettable.” Lupo (Silver), rising from the ashes of the old Villa del Lupo, impressed the judges with “crisp service and excellent modern plates (huge portions, at that) rooted in classic technique. It’s also a pleasant relief to dine in a quiet, old-school room.” La Buca (Bronze) and its “straighforward, well-executed and attractively priced menu” edged out two Honourable Mentions, Campagnolo and Cibo, though as one judge noted: “You can’t go wrong with a single name on this shortlist.”
