Six Recently Opened Restaurants You Need to Try Next

These spots have opened within the last six months or so—have you had a chance to try them all yet?

1. Roman Holiday

From the team behind Casereccio comes a new concept that harkens back to old Italia: Onda. The new Olympic Village pizzeria serves up pinsa romana: a lighter, rectangular cousin of the pies we’re used to, including familiar flavours such as the margherita, ortolana and prosciutto e arugula. Of course, the spot doesn’t ignore Italy’s other famous dishes: a selection of antipasti, handmade pastas and paninis are available here, too. ondayvr.ca

2. Snack Attack

East meets West at inventive Commercial Drive Japanese snack bar Nomo Nomo. The prawn toast (served up on a fluffy, savoury Chinese doughnut) and a melt-in-your-mouth Ibérico tomahawk, but the cocktail program is the real standout here, featuring drinks like the peachy Tonka (served with baguette ice). @nomonomo

Opened September 2025 | 1268 Commercial Dr.

3. We’ve Got Beef

All things beef are on display at the new West End haunt Handson Frites. Think: hearty cuts of steak, beef tartare and, of course, steak frites. Order the beef tenderloin to cook the meat to your liking on a sizzling platter tableside. Despite caviar being on the menu, Handson serves up a decidedly unfussy take on the steakhouse experience. @handsonyvr

4. Contemporary Korean Wave

Laidback Korean spot Jeju has been a favourite in Tofino for a few years, but in November, the beloved restaurant decided to splash out in Vancouver. Created by Dylan Kim and his mother, chef Myungseok “Julie” Suh, Vancouver’s Jeju menu includes elevated small plates such as gochujang-glazed fried chicken, truffle-topped bulgogi and octopus with aged kimchi, plus major shareable mains like 35-day-aged galbi. jeju-restaurant.com

5. Caviar on Everything

Opulence is everything at Osetra, the first restaurant from the Key Collection. A luxe, seafood-driven menu led by chef de cuisine Tim Nguyen at the 65-seat space includes raw dishes like a melon and serrano-tinged scallop crudo, caviar-topped buttermilk waffles and a surprising dessert that made our Secrets of the City list. osetravancouver.com

6. Tacos in a Pinche

La Taqueria’s much-anticipated offshoot, Pinche Taco Shop, takes a high-energy approach to casual Mexican with six specialty tacos (charcoal-grilled pollo, suckling pig and the signature trompo picaña among them) and a single dessert, plus cocktails on tap. Taco ’bout a good time. lataqueria.com
