Smitty’s Oyster House Celebrates Summer with Tapas Thursdays

Tapas, sangria, craft beer and more at the Mount Pleasant seafood haven.

Smitty’s Oyster House on Main Street just made life easier for hungry Vancouverities who are a bit indecisive about what to snack on next—and let’s be real, that’s all of us at some point.

With the newly launched Tapas Thursday program, Smitty’s adds a selection of Spanish-inspired dishes to its beloved selection of seafood dishes.

Here’s the breakdown: every Thursday throughout the summer up to eight hungry guests at a time can mosey up to the bar and enjoy the elevated creations of head chef Alan Older. You’ll have to order a drink (think sangria, wine, craft beer and more), but with the purchase of your beverage comes a free rotating assortment of Spanish-inspired tapas. Yes, you read that correctly. Tapas are free when you buy a drink.

The (free) menu is wide-ranging, from handhelds like crab and shrimp empanadas (topped with pickled onions and avocado emulsion) and octopus tostadas with adobo black beans  to classic Spanish bites like croquetas de jamon and patatas bravas (with spicy tomato sauce and garlic paprika aioli, of course).

The appetizers are served in traditional smaller-sized portions, which means (in this writer’s opinion), that you get to try more of them. This, as we know, is in fact the cure for chronic indecision while hungry. More is more, we like to say. And, if you just so happen to be at Smitty’s on a Thursday after work this summer, you’ll get a chance to taste a bit more, too.

Hours: Thursdays between 6 pm and 8 pm

Address: 3124 Main St
