From the masterminds of Potluck Hawker Eatery, Street Hawker is opening in late spring 2023.
Potluck Hawker Eatery has had VanMag’s heart ever since it opened in 2020 (the restaurant was shortlisted for Best New and tied for gold in the Best Casual category of our 2021 Restaurant Awards). And this week, Potluck has announced a second venture: Street Hawker, a burgers-and-fries-and-milkshakes joint. It’s like finding out your work crush has an adult twin, except not as creepy.
According to the team (Justin Cheung, Dominic Sai, Lynn Sakai-Boden and Darren Chuang), Street Hawker’s menu will Southeast Asian-ify the all-American burger by using coconut griddled potato rolls and incorporating ingredients like chili crab, salted egg yolk, black pepper and nasi lemak. A highlight? The “Malay-o-Fish” (give whoever named that a raise, stat) made with breaded fish, sambal and coconut ranch. There will be milkshakes, too—dairy and non-dairy, bless—in mango, ube and Milo.
We hate the phrase drool-worthy. But pictures of the still-in-progress menu warrant its use.
The restaurant is opening at 3088 Main Street in spring 2023. The space has two levels with an eight-seat patio (I’m going to start training now for the bloodbath that will be getting a seat there–watch your back) and 20 loft seats.
