She writes fantasy novels and quirky romances, and still finds the time to squeeze in time with her fave anime show.
Vancouver-based author Katrina Kwan has not one but two books out now (culinary rom-com Knives, Seasoning, and a Dash of Love and fantasy-adventure The Last Dragon of the East)… and both were named on Indigo’s Most Anticipated Canadian Books list. We’re not sure how she has time to consume media with that sort of output, but she had a few recommendations to share with us: here’s what’s on Kwan’s her pop-culture radar.
It’s my go-to podcast for all things pop culture. The hosts, Janna and Julie, are absolute sweethearts. They talk about everything from new book releases to TV shows and they’re hilarious.
I’m obsessed with a game called Hades by Supergiant Games. It’s a rogue-like dungeon crawler based in Greek myth. I’ve been playing its sequel, Hades II, non-stop. Not only is the action thrilling, the characters are also incredibly engaging. I’m not very good, but there’s something satisfying about trying new weapon and ability combos with every new run.
I can’t recommend it enough. The animation is gorgeous and the storytelling is A-tier. I’m eagerly awaiting the next season (and praying that Netflix doesn’t do something dumb like cancel the show—did I just jinx myself?).
