Here’s what singer-songwriter, comedian, drag artist and self-described glamour clown Toddy has on their pop culture radar.
Trained opera singer and self-described ‘glamour clown’ Toddy dragged their way to stardom by winning OutTV’s Call Me Mother drag competition in 2021; now, they’re keeping busy in the lead-up to their debut album by releasing singles and asking our intrusive questions about their favourite pop-culture content.
Favourite song at the moment?
Brandi Carlile’s new song “Broken Horses.” This song has so much range and her tone / the way she scoops into her vowels sparks such a dopamine hit.
Upcoming album you’re excited about?
My own! I would be lying if I didn’t say that. My debut glam rock album comes out June 2024!
Guilty pleasure song?
“Welcome to the Black Parade.” I didn’t grow up with popular music and so in my late twenties there are gems that I had never heard before and I get to experience them like someone would in 2006.
Go-to karaoke track?
“99 Luftballons” by Nena. Yes, the full German version and no, I do not speak German. Learning this song start to finish in German was a weird COVID project that I did pretty successfully.
Fave podcast?
Unsealed: The Tylenol Murders. It’s true crime and its historical. Brilliant.
Fave TV show?
I am waiting with bated breath for the second season of Severance. It’s one of my favourite tv shows ever. That cliff hanger at the end of season one was out of this world. I think about this show every single day.
Fave guilty-pleasure TV show?
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City! I love a hot mom plus the Mormon drama is wild.
Last movie you watched that blew you away?
Tár. It was such a stunning and real depiction of how we have created a system that protects those who are powerful. Also, Cate Blanchett in a Sapphic role… need I say more!
Favourite movie of all time?
The Spy Kids Trilogy. I think high art peaked with those movies and they should get the belated accolades they deserve.
Favourite social media creator?
I really love “Tanara Double Chocolate.” If you haven’t seen the “Everybody’s so Creative!” series, then you are GREATLY missing out.
Favourite YouTube channel?
Maddy Morphosis and their series “Give It To Me Straight.” Maddy is hilarious and I love authentic discomfort.
Upcoming events you’re excited about?
I can’t wait to start performing my own music at pride and music festivals! It’s been a dream of mine for a while to be able to perform my own music. I’ll be bringing this glamour clown international.
Favourite book?
I’m sinking my teeth into the “Interview With the Vampire” series by Anne Rice. I finally made it to The Vampire Lestat and am obsessed.
Toddy’s single “Wounded” is now available on streaming services and their debut glam rock album, Always, drops this month.
