Looking for some ways to stave off the seasonal saddies (besides getting a SAD lamp)? Kicking off on November 6, Bar Gobo is hosting a brand new wine-and-vinyl pop-up they’re calling Joyride. It’s every Sunday and promises to be a carefree evening of wine, gourmet snacks and vintage vinyl to offset your winter blues.
Like your pop-ups to be able to pass the Bechdel Test? Then you’re in luck because Joyride is led by an all-female team which also includes acclaimed Chef Andrea Carlson, owner of Bar Gobo, Burdock and Co and Harvest Community Foods.and was recently named. (Bonus foodie points: Burdock was named this year’s ‘Best West Coast Restaurant’ at our annual Restaurant Awards.)
Alongside an ever-changing, inspired menu of shareable snacks is an equally evolving wine selection that regularly features different fave wine importers, with Massey Wines and Spirits leading the charge in November. And at $14 for a glass of wine and $7 for a beer (by Studio Brewing in Burnaby), your bank account won’t be the one going on a joyride.
The music for this Sunday Funday is courtesy of Jordan Westre, a.k.a. Burdock and Co’s general manager, a.k.a. DJ Dimanche. That’s French for “Sunday” and honestly, the greatest DJ name we’ve heard since DJ Tanner. Did you know Jordan hosts a weekly radio show that explores the geography and history of alternative music? I didn’t, but that’s no surprise; I don’t know much about DJs (except DJ Tanner) (obviously).
Jump aboard this joyride every Sunday (starting November 6) from 6 p.m. ’til late at Bar Gobo in the historic Strathcona neighbourhood. It’s first-come, first-served seating so set a reminder, update that Google Calendar and show up early.
