There’s lots of lists of dog-friendly Vancouver patios out there. There’s also lots of dog breeds out there. We’re pretty sure this is the only one that combines the two. And if cockapoos and chiweenies have taught us anything, mixing two good things can deliver some pretty adorable results.

These patios were paw-picked for functionality. All our love to curbside patios, but most of them aren’t a great place for dogs (even if they are technically canine-friendly). The restaurants and breweries on this list all have designated patio space that isn’t too close to traffic and offers plenty of shade. Your pup will thank you for some peace and quiet—and any table scraps.

For Dachshunds: Superflux

Superflux has a “Hot Dog Happy Hour” from noon till 3:00 p.m. on weekdays. They have plenty of unique hot dogs (think mac and cheese, banh mi and taiyo) and you can BYOHD, too… a dachshund or some other long and low variety is the ideal patio companion for this occasion.

For Italian Greyhounds: Via Tevere

A no-brainer, right? Odds are your iggy hasn’t been to the new Via Tevere location since it opened on Main Street in May, and will love curling up on the patio (and dutifully responding to any bits of pepperoni that happen to drop on the ground).

For Golden Retrievers: Steamworks Main Street

Steamworks is a classic, and so is the golden retriever. Bring your faithful family dog to the Main Street location’s spacious patio for soft pretzels, deep fried cheese curds and plenty of pats from jealous passersby who live in pet-banned apartments.

Okay, this pairing comes from the bulldog’s likeness to a sloppy, juicy burger… but you can’t deny that this smushy-faced canine would love quick stroll through Kits or the River District followed by a shady-lie down in a burger-scented oasis.

For Beagles: The Regal Beagle (duh)

Whether your beagle exhibits royal or jester-like behaviour, the Regal Beagle is evidently the best place to bring them. The bar actually has two patios, a canine-friendly street-facing one and a secret back patio (please keep it a secret from your dog… the back patio is humans-only, and you know how beagles can get Snoopy).

For Shiba Inus: Dachi

Thanks to its Japanese roots and wise demeanour, the Shiba Inu will feel right at home at Dachi’s natural wine and sake bar. Just kidding, these dogs are head-empty, but you’ll love Dachi’s inventive menu and your pup will love lounging at your feet and reminiscing on its meme heyday.

Anyone who owns a Bernese Mountain dog will tell you that despite their grand name and stately appearance, they’re lazy as hell—perfect for an afternoon of sipping IPAs and chowing down on chicken parm sandos on the Container Brewing patio.
