Ring In the Lunar New Year With These Vancouver Food Events

Banh Chu’ng making workshops, seafood feasts and wine-paired dinners are all part of the festivities surrounding the Year of the Horse.

It’s been said that the Year of the Horse carries the energy for bold, decisive action, but if we know Vancouverites, it’s about to energize our appetites, too. Here are some hunger-inducing events this February with eating and celebrating in mind.

Bánh Chưng Making Workshop At DD Mau Chinatown

As the Vietnamese Lunar New Year approaches, DD Mau Chinatown is bringing back its famed banh chu’ng making workshop, inviting guests to bring their families to experience Vietnamese traditions. 

To craft the square-shaped rice cake, patrons are supplied with ingredients such as sticky rice, mung beans, and pork, wrapped in banana leaves. Each guest will learn about Vietnamese history, the cultural significance of the dish and Tết festivities while creating cuisine so close to home. Patrons will then indulge in a beverage of their choice provided by the restaurant. 

The experience takes place over a span of three hours. Tools and ingredients are supplied, so guests can interact and converse while learning and making two different types of Banh Chu’ng.

Lunar New Year Dinner for Two at Glowbal Restaurant

Glowbal Restaurant is welcoming the Lunar New Year with a special dinner for two. To commemorate the season, Glowbal is providing an elegant three-course menu designed for patrons to share. 

The course opens with the scallop and sable terrine, served with seafood consommé and crab salad, followed by honey glazed duck breast with leg meat croquettes, steamed pine mushroom mandu, and five spice jus. Making the dinner a perfect blend of dishes that accompany the Lunar New Year.

The experience ends on a sweet note with mandarin and mango cake finished with gold crème anglaise. The dessert is crafted to honour themes of prosperity and togetherness. Glowbal’s Lunar New Year menu offers an elevated way to toast to new beginnings.

Lucky Dumpling Workshop at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts 

Whether you are just learning to cook or are an expert in the kitchen, this immersive class invites guests to honour the Year of the Horse while learning traditional dumpling-making techniques rooted in the symbolism of prosperity, longevity and good fortune. 

The workshop is led by a professional chef-instructor in an intimate, small-group setting. Participants work in pairs to craft golden pork and garlic chive dumplings, lucky vegetable dumplings and chilli wontons.

Guests can learn cooking skills such as folding techniques, flavour balancing and plating presentation. 

Attendees can expect a relaxed, interactive atmosphere. where cultural storytelling is shared, and you will leave with delicious creations to share with friends and family.

This year, the Lunar New Year is elevated in style at the Penfolds Lunar New Year Dinner 2026. This intimate four-course dining experience brings together world-class Australian wines and thoughtfully crafted cuisine in honour of the Year of the Horse.

The menu incorporates bold flavours and refined techniques. Guests begin with a BBQ eggplant nigiri amuse bouche, followed by a choice of murgella burrata with red anjou pear and candied walnuts or decadent crab agnolotti with caviar beurre blanc. 

Still hungry? For mains, guests can select between roasted turbot filet with lotus root crisps and ginger chilli glaze, or a perfectly cooked filet mignon with mashed potatoes, charred broccolini and Szechuan peppercorn sauce.
