Hot Tip, Design Lovers: Stock Up on Vancouver-Made Goods (Or Just Some Hometown Pride) at IDSVancouver

There's a bunch of homegrown talent to be found at Interior Design Show Vancouver this weekend.

IDS Vancouver is back September 25 to 28, and though the interior design show is known for its big international design brand activations, this is a friendly reminder that it’s also a showcase for plenty of homegrown talent, too.

Lock and Mortice, for starters, is a favourite woodworker and furniture design company used by the city’s top interior designers, and they’ll be on hand debuting their new modular shelving units. Pattern and textile designer Deborah Clements Packer will be on site too with her coffee-and-cream striped upholstered side tables and colour-blocked armchairs—and Origins meticulously crafted wood accessories (those candleholders!) are well worth scoping out while you’re there.

You’ll find Giles Runeckles‘ colourful pieces in the Studio North exhibition wing alongside the sculptural lamps of multi-disciplinary designer Nikki Alagha, while local lighting darlings A-N-D will be featured in the Illuminate section. Stooludio will be on site as well showcasing its signature 3D printed vases and custom tufted rugs.

Alagha’s lights look a modernist’s interpretation of a jellyfish.
If you’re searching for a piece that pops, Giles Runeckles delivers colour and playful form.
A-N-D will have their linear lights on display at this weekend’s event, too.
Stooludio is best known around town for their wonderfully wobbly vases.

And if you’re keen to pick up a few pieces for the home while you’re on the show floor, the marketplace (a.k.a. The District) is rife with Vancouver-based vendors: snag a new home scent from Homecoming Candles, beautiful bowls from Bird Ceramics, artful silk scarves from Misheo or wall-mounted vases from Coldwell Creations.

And if you’re torn about which date to check out the show, may we humbly recommend Saturday? We have it on good authority that the Vicostone Keynote Stage is going to be popping off with a very special moderator doing Q&As with designers Paolo Ferrari and Karin Bohn… See you there?
