For the urban athlete heading to-and-from the gym, there’s a new capsule collection dropping today.
Some collaborations colossally miss the mark. Think Lindsay Lohan x Ungaro; Kanye West for A.P.C. (Paris-chic and Kanye make strange bedfellows) or—one of the all-time oddest—Supreme and Kermit the Frog. It’s head scratching to the point of baldness. But when two brands get it right—and two Vancouver sartorial heavyweights at that—the result is a unanimous knockout. The new Lululemon x Roden Gray capsule collection launches today and promises to stay standing for all of about three minutes before it’s (sold) out.Roden Gray, that Gastown outpost dressing stylish men everywhere with its beautiful curated mix of leading-edge local and international brands, has partnered with athleisure behemoth Lululemon for a hyper-local, seven-piece military-inspired men’s capsule. The modern-silhouetted collection blends fashion and function for sweat-worthy gear all in the guise of streetwear.Featuring military elements like webbing, stiff cotton drawcords and abrasion-resistance material, the collection melds workout-inspired details like reflective lettering, four-way stretch, and sweat-wicking fabric. Each of the modern pieces include black reflective “LXRG-9807” custom artwork representing the Lululemon x Roden Gray collaboration and the year each company was founded—Lululemon in 1998 and Roden Gray in 2007.Vancouver-tested and approved, the jacket, pant and shorts are in durable, four-way stretch and water-repellent Swift fabric while the tees are made with lightweight jersey and paired with mesh for working out. Some might argue that the reflective artwork on the back of the ¾-length tights highlights toothsome calves, but, in our mind, the real highlight is the bomber jacket with Primaloft insulation. This is workout gear on legal steroids.“As an influential source for the ever-changing landscape of the fashion industry, Roden Gray brings an inimitable perspective that’s reflected in the military-inspired collection. The Lululemon x Roden Gray collaboration invokes our evolving approach to performance-driven apparel, merging fashion and function,” says Ben Stubbington, SVP, Men’s Design, Lululemon who partnered with Roden Gray’s founder Rob Lo to conceive of this new champion wear. The collection—ranging in price from $98 to $498—will be sold at select stores globally; in Vancouver, find it at Lululemon on W 4th Ave. and Robson St., as well as at Roden Gray.
