The Haul: Fashion Designers Catherine and Eva Regehr Love a Portable Statement Lamp and Scottish Mohair Throws

The mother-daughter design duo shares a few of their favourite things.

Catherine Regehr has been a staple of Vancouver’s fashion scene since the ’90s—flip back through the Vanmag archives to see her feminine silhouettes and luxurious fabrics throughout our fashion coverage over the decades.

Today, the legend designs collaboratively with daughter Eva, and their latest collection doubles down on off-the-shoulder elegance and surprisingly versatile feathered gowns.

Here’s what delights both designers when they’re not busy sketching your new favourite cocktail dress.

1. Dries Van Noten Ristos Belted Trench Coat

CATHERINE: My black Dries Van Noten trench coat must be at least 10 years old at this point. It’s a timeless shape and very comfortable. $2,915, holtrenfrew.com

2. Flos Bellhop Portable Table Lamp

EVA: I love my portable table lamp from Flos. I’m one of those people that avoids overhead lighting at all costs. I bring this lamp outside on my patio to read at night, or into the kitchen when I’m making something later in the evening for a nice ambient light. From $370, lightformshop.com

3. Mohair Blanket

CATHERINE: Scottish mohair throws are incredibly cozy! They’re light as a feather and very warm. I get them from this wonderful shop called Rhubarb Designs on Salt Spring Island, also owned by a mother-daughter duo. $455, rhubarbdesigns.com

4. Oju Inu Dimple Mugs

EVA: A friend of mine makes beautiful ceramics here in Vancouver. She made me a few dimple mugs that I use for everything. I love having pieces that someone has made with their hands; to me it feels like they carry a nice energy. DM for purchase inquiries,  @ojuinu.clayarts

5. Dôen Ischia Midi Dress

EVA: I bought a Dôen nightgown a few years ago and I live in it, especially in the summer. As someone who works in the garment industry, I really appreciate when something is made with quality. The one I bought is sold out, but this Ischia midi dress (in black) captures the same spirit. $590,  holtrenfrew.com

6. Martha Sturdy Resin Vases

CATHERINE: In my Salt Spring home, I have two extra-large ones on my kitchen island for big floral displays. I also have low ones, end to end, for low floral displays on my dining room tables. I’ve known Martha for years and have collected many of her large resin bowls and side tables that colour coordinate with my environments Prices vary, ebay.ca

7. Xirena Beau Shirt

CATHERINE: I love these Xirena shirts. They’re made in a very lightweight soft cotton. The cut is very good. I’ve got them in many different colours. $280, gravity pope.com

8. Jao Brand Go Oil

EVA: I keep this beautiful Goē oil from Jao Brand right by my bed and use it at night on my hair, lips and hands. It’s made with natural oils and is free of harsh chemicals or synthetic fragrance, which I’ve been paying more attention to lately. $78, sunjalink.com

9. Helly Hansen Men’s Midsund 3 Rubber Boots

CATHERINE: I wear them when I’m gardening at my place on Salt Spring Island in rainy weather. I like the men’s boots. They’re very comfortable and high enough to prevent soaks. $90, hellyhansen.com

10. Prada Brushed Leather Men’s Loafers

CATHERINE: Mine must be at least 10 years old. They’re made of fine leather—calfskin. They feel like a pair of old slippers and work with most of my wardrobe. $1,590, prada.com
