Wine of the Week: At $13 This Sicilian White Is the Single Best Deal in the Entire Province Right Now

Even at $18, this banger from Tenuta Rapitala is a solid buy.

Grillo Rapitala Organic $12.99

We’re diving into a new format here, where in lieu of rounds ups of several bottles every few weeks, we’ll be blasting you once a week (or so) with a single bottle that’s captured our attention and if I’m being truthful, this week’s bottle (and its insane sale price) is the impetus to be a little more frequent presence on your screens.

Anyone who’s curious about wine knows that for the past 10-15 years the volcanic island of Sicily has been one of the wine world’s hot spots. The combination of cool indigenous varietals (like the charming to say Nerello Mascalese), maritime influence and those volcanic soils create wines that have a clean, pure, mineral-driven character that have become the darlings of somms the world over.

The only problem? That global love has turned a hidden gem into a pricey splurge in a remarkably short period of time. And while the reds get most of the attention, there’s something about the salinity and freshness of Sicilian whites that I adore. And you know what I also adore? $13 wine. To be clear, even when this wine is at its full price of $18, it’s a great buy: it has crisp and clean stone fruit notes backed by some wild coastal herbs and the aforementioned salinity to keep your palate alert and thirsty for more. I’d say it’s perfect for shellfish, but it’s perfect for almost anything. And it’s organic.

At $13 (only until the end of the month) it’s the single best deal in the Province right now. Buy cases.
