How else would you spend a Tuesday evening? Tonight at 6 p.m., The Cascade Room is hosting bartenders from all over Main St. as they compete to make the best cocktail using Mount Gay Eclipse Rum (sponsor alert). As the bartenders serve each of the three industry judges, the general public will receive a one-ounce sample of the drink, which they can score on a card provided upon entrance.Along with The Cascade Room, other challengers include El Camino’s, The Five Point, The Nomad, The Reef, The Shameful Tiki Room, and possibly other rooms who weren’t organized enough to sign up too far in advance—cheers to you, hospitality industry.You might remember the organizer of the event, Justin Taylor, sharing his winning cocktail recipe from Gin-A-Palooza with us, so we asked him to share a drink in an ode to the Main St. challenge. Here, for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home or workplace, The Main St. Cup.Main Street CupMount Gay Rum and Okanagan Spirits Maraschino, muddled with fresh lime, angostura bitters, mint and honey, garnished with Granny Smith Apple.Ingredients:1.5 oz. Mount Gay Rum0.5 oz. Okanagan Spirits Maraschino1.0 oz. lime juice0.5 oz. honey syrup3 dashes of angostura bitters5 mint leavesMethod:Add one whole lime, quartered, in a cocktail shaker and muddle.Add remaining ingredients with ice and shake for 15 seconds.Double strain over crushed ice in a julep cup.Garnish with fresh sliced Granny Smith Apple.
