Canada Day long weekend, BC Day long weekend and Labour Day long weekend, the Terry Fox Plaza is going to be bumpin'.
You probably have already recognized that we are patio obsessives, between making a special new category for the Restaurant Awards and frantically polling our readership at the first sign of a sunny day, but even we couldn’t have prepared ourselves for the news that dropped last week that BC Place is opening the city’s largest licensed outdoor patio during long weekends this summer.
Is the thought of sharing happy hour with a thousand other people on Terry Fox Plaza slightly overwhelming? Sure. But we’re dedicated Patio Lovers, and won’t let the prospect of a sun-drunk crowd scare us. We’re just gonna get elbows up and make our way to the bar for $10 build-your-own Caesars and $5 cans of Coors (a little surprised it’s not a local beer on offer, to be honest, but absolutely cannot complain about this not-BC-Place price).
Looks like your plans are sorted, then, for the Canada Day long weekend, B.C. Day long weekend and Labour Day long weekend: set yourself up at one of the picnic tables or high-top tables, or get competitive with any of the lawn games. Whether you want to set the exclusive “Cotton Candy Craze” drink with cotton candy on top as the prize for the winner or the loser is up to your personal sweet-tooth level.
Food is on offer, too, to soak up the summer bevs (think Dirty Bao Bun sliders, smoked brisket sandwiches and more), and you’ll find non-alcoholic options, too, for the kids and sober folks in your circle. What you won’t find there: sunscreen, so make sure to prep accordingly if you’re going to make it an all day affair.
The patio party kicks off June 28 at noon. See you there?
BC Place Patio 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily, June 28 to July 1; August 2 to August 5; August 30 to September 2 777 Pacific Boulevard
