From the best restaurants to powerful people to Indigenous solidarity, here are your favourite stories on vanmag.com in 2022.
Another year gone by, another city full of stories. As 2022 comes to a close, we’re celebrating the people, places, shopping and food (and believe us, there is a lot of food) that caught your eye this year: here are the most-read stories on vanmag.com in the year 2022. Let the countdown begin.
Our exclusive interview with Rob Feenie this summer detailed the chef’s departure from Cactus Club and what’s next. “I wrote 90 potential menu items down on a piece of paper. I’m not short of ideas,” said Feenie.
Is anyone surprised that sushi made our top 10 list? In this story, our brave team of editors go head-to-head drafting “teams” of the best sushi restaurants in the city. Tears were shed.
Everything’s coming up veggie. This list of the city’s best plant-based restaurants includes Do Chay, The Apron, Aleph Eatery, and Virtuous Pie.
Another restaurant roundup—are y’all hungry or something? The best Korean restaurants in the city include Hanwoori, Joong Wong, Royal Seoul House, Sura Korean BBQ, and Insadong (which yes, is in Coquitlam and still on this list—that’s how good it is).
More food! This list details over 60 of the best restaurants in the city, and was posted in anticipation of our 2022 Restaurant Awards (find the winners below).
In a shocking turn of events, coming in at #5 is another story about food. This was written in January 2022 and covered some of the new rooms we were most excited to try (think Hero’s Welcome, The Drive Canteen and Elephant).
It’s no surprise that our 2022 Restaurant Award Winners are high up on this list—our 33rd awards were an awesome celebration of the best restaurants in the city. Bookmark this page as you plan your 2023 food calendar.
At #3, it’s our 2022 Power 50 List. From politicians to businesspeople to real estate moguls to artists to activists, we broke down the real movers and shakers in the city (watch for our 2023 list, coming up in February).
The Michelin Guide strutted into the city this year, and everyone went bonkers. Our second most-read story breaks the names of the eight restaurants that earned one star, plus the Bib Gourmands and all 60 restaurants that made it to Michelin’s recommended list in 2022.
And finally, our number one story—a list of where to find orange shirts designed by Indigenous artists. Readers on this post spiked around Canada Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, but there was a steady stream of clicks all year (and it’s pretty awesome that the number one most-read story on our site is supporting Indigenous artists). That’s all you, Vancouver. See you next year?
