Joseph Cunningham: The Diary of a white rich kid

A Solo Exhibition at The Playground Studio

The Playground Studio is proud to present The Diary of a rich white kid, a solo exhibition by Joseph Cunningham, opening November 21, 2025, and continuing November 22 and 23 at 108 E Broadway, Vancouver (back alley entrance). The exhibition is free and open to the public, and the artist will be present. Cunningham, a Canadian painter and sculptor, explores transformation and divine identity through myth, memory, and form. His work emerges from a deep engagement with personal and collective metamorphosis — each painting and sculpture standing as a mirror of becoming, where death, rebirth, and return coexist in cyclical dialogue.

“The only way out is in,” Cunningham writes. “Each work is a mirror of becoming — death, rebirth, and the return to what was never lost.”

In The Only Way Out Is In, Cunningham invites viewers to confront thresholds of identity and transcendence, invoking the sacred and the mortal in equal measure. The show combines sculptural assemblage and painterly gesture, dissolving the line between destruction and creation — between body and myth.

About the Artist

Joseph Cunningham is a Canadian visual artist working in painting and sculpture. His practice investigates transformation, divine identity, and the mythic structures that shape human experience. Through material and metaphor, Cunningham’s work navigates the space between memory and becoming — the eternal act of return.
