Decorated local actor Meg Roe made her directorial debut with an acclaimed production of The Tempest at Bard on the Beach back in 2008. Six years later she’s revisiting Shakespeare’s magical comedy but moving the action from the side studio to the big tent’s main stage.
“The intimacy of that production was something people really responded to,” she says now, looking back. “But this new distance will bring a different viewpoint and, I think, be really beautiful.” Expect more of everything: more bubbles, more instruments, more spectacle. “We have a really terrific foundation, and I’m excited to be adding to it and creating a whole new experience.”
The Tempest runs in repertory with A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cymbeline, and Equivocation, a 2009 play about the Bard of Avon.
Celebrate 25 years of Bard on the Beach with the new season running June 11 – September 20 at Vanier Park. Here you will find exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes scoops with those who bring life and magic to the Shakespearean stage.
