Aloha Bowls brings a taste of Hawaii to Vancouver and we are verrrrry into it.

I’m not much of a surfer and I don’t particularly enjoy snorkelling, so last September, when I visited Oahu, my primary goal was to find the best food on the island. I tried Top Chef alum Lee Anne Wong’s Japanese-fusion breakfast at Koko Head Cafe, Vietnamese street food at Pig and the Lady, locally inspired share plates at Mud Hen Water, fresh poke from Ahi Assassins (twice) and the messiest, spiciest platter of head-on prawns from Romy’s Kahuka. But if there’s one thing I’ve been craving ever since my return to Vancouver, it’s the acai bowl I had from Haleiwa Bowls on the North Shore.

So I was more than a little happy when, last weekend, I was walking through Olympic Village and spotted the very cool blue-and-pink Aloha Bowls food truck. I immediately forgot about the Terra Breads pastry I was initially gunning for and lined up for a taste of their take on the blended smoothie bowl. And it did not disappoint (a quick web search revealed they launched in March so I’m upset to have not stumbled upon them sooner). The fresh blend of acai, banana, blueberries and almond butter topped with crunchy house-made granola and COCONUT WHIP (seriously…they need to package that sh*t and sell it 💯), was exactly what I needed to kickstart my Saturday. Looks like I’ll have a little taste of paradise right here at home from now on.
