There is an embarrassment of riches for consumers to choose from as France storms the Vancouver International Wine Festival with a magnificent onslaught of wine dinners, minglers and seminars. There are terrific Italian, Australian and Spanish events, but the theme region is France and so are my event suggestions:
What: A chance to taste some great wines borne of the rugged Languedoc from Gérard Bertrand. Organic and biodynamic cultivation allows grapes like Grenache, Carignan, Syrah plus Chardonnay and Cabernet express terroir in a distinct and articulate way.
When: Tuesday, February 25,6:30-10 p.m.
Where: Le Parisien, 751 Denman St., $175
Wines: Gérard Bertrand Crémant de Limoux Blanc 2011, Chardonnay Naturae 2012, Domaine de l’Aigle Chardonnay 2012, Terroir Minervois 2010, Terroir Saint Chinian 2011, Domaine de Cigalus Rouge 2011, Château la Sauvageonne Grand Vin 2011, La Forge 2011, Legende Rivesaltes 1974
What: Offers 6 top champagnes matched with bubble-addict Chef Quang Dang’s instinctual and nuanced cuisine. You can guarantee that the pairings will be unexpected and spot-on.

Where: West Restaurant, 2881 Granville St., $195
Wines: Champagne Taittinger Brut Reserve, Prelude Grands Crus, Prestige Rosé, Brut Vintage 2005, Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2005, Nocturne Rosé Disco
