Our Favourite Summer Patios

Black + Blue

Maike, from Australia, loves the stylish but intimate vibe of Black + Blue steakhouse’s rooftop patio. “We came here because it’s new,” says Maike, “but we’ll be back because it’s an unexpected treat nestled in the high-rises.”

Pier 7

“We’re so close to the water I can smell it,” says Megan, who loves the view over the harbour to downtown from the Pier 7 patio in the North Van shipyards. “It’s cool that you can see hard and soft surfaces of Vancouver.” The food is approachable, but “different from what you get at the chains, which I like.”

Dockside

Vancouverites Calvin and Linda found themselves at Dockside on Granville Island because their two daughters, Raine and Jessica, saw it on an episode of the Real Housewives of Vancouver. The bobbing boats, the Yaletown skyline, and the slick South Beach ambiance are just gravy. Besides, “why should it just be tourists who get to enjoy this?”

The Wine Bar at Provence

Kamloops native Frank and his wife Wendy have been fixtures on the patio at Provence Marinaside for the past six years, and now at new The Wine Bar annex. Frank enjoys “wonderful B.C. wines at a reasonable price, and the wines-on-tap program that let’s you sample from lots of different producers.”

Rumpus Room

Heather, a researcher and cultural geographer, loves the hit of afternoon sun at the flamingo-festooned,
white-picket-fenced, parking-lot patio at Main Street’s Rumpus Room. “It’s convenient and totally unpretentious, great for a quick meet-up with friends after work.”
