Best Vietnamese 2014

GOLD: PHNOM PENH

Silver: Au Petit Café | Bronze: Pho Thai Hoa | Honourable Mentions: BaoQi, Hai Phong

Phnom Penh has been dishing years and years of beautiful food, including the hands-down best chicken wings in town (get the lime-and-pepper variety), yet it still doesn’t get quite the respect it deserves. One judge called it “the kind of restaurant that makes Vancouver a legitimate food city.” They thought that called for Gold. Au Petit Café (Silver) is “the little family restaurant that could. And still does.” Judges braved lineups in order to return for the lemongrass chicken and the pho. Kingsway mainstay Pho Thai Hoa (Bronze) serves a spicy bun bo hue (a lemongrass-suffused soup with rice vermicelli and beef) that lights up diners-and yes, all agreed its pho is one of the best around.
