The Breakdown: Malls Still Dominate Vancouver’s Shopping Scene

As fall fashion lures shoppers into retail’s busiest season, we look at all the ways Vancouverites are getting the goods.

Using a test figure with dimensions of 34”-24”-34”, a study found that shoppers with lower self-esteem feel threatened by conventionally attractive mannequins and place less value on what they display. Perceived value of the items increases when the mannequin is bald, marred or does not have a head.



Of stores in one Metro Vancouver mall had at least one mannequin; in total, the researchers counted 665 mannequins in the mall.

Online shopping 

in Vancouver spiked 22% from 2016 to 2017. The city’s fastest-growing online categories are sporting goods (35% of sales) and fashion (25% of sales).

In total last September, Vancouverites did $3,400,443,000 worth of shopping.
