As part of its mission to uncover and celebrate hidden treasures of classical music, Sakka Music presents a rare program built around an unusual ensemble: the piano quintet with double bass. This striking combination—piano, violin, viola, cello, and double bass—has inspired only a handful of composers, making each work in the repertoire a discovery in itself.
The concert brings together two such works, separated by time and style but united by this distinctive instrumentation. On one side, Schubert’s beloved “Trout” Quintet, a sparkling masterpiece filled with freshness, lyricism, and youthful energy. On the other hand, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Quintet in C minor, a deeply expressive score that blends lyrical intensity with the colours of post-Romantic England.
Through this unique encounter between Schubert and Vaughan Williams, Sakka Music continues its commitment to restoring overlooked voices and revealing the extraordinary richness of the musical heritage.
