Visual artist Kathryn Wadel and author Nathalie De Los Santos are offering an art-making and storytelling workshop inspired by modern mythology and folklore. Gathered at the Slice of Life Art Gallery in Vancouver, listen to Nathalie’s modern renditions of Filipino folklore, followed by an exploration in modern myth making and visual storytelling led by Kathryn. You’re invited to create a written story, zine or mini-artwork that explore cultural myths reimagined in the modern day.

Participants are welcome to the gallery with time to view the artwork in the Slice Collective and Cultural themed exhibitions before and after the workshop. Kat and Nathalie will introduce themselves and share examples of modern mythology making in their own art and literary practices. Combining these two perspectives, participants are invited to share their own cultural and personal mythologies and create a zine or mini-artwork inspired by this cultural exchange. Participants are welcome to draw inspiration from the exhibitions in the gallery space and creative writing prompts / short stories provided by the artists to explore modern-myth making. Registration is required. Materials are provided. Participants are welcome to bring personal supplies and cultural stories to share.
