All mixology competitions are not created equal. Sure you can be champion of the Kahlua Mudslide Invitational (not a real event BTW), but why would you want to? On the other end of the spectrum is Diageo’s World Class competitions, the Academy Awards of the spirit world. Vancouver has always done very well at the nine-year-old competition. In 2014 Grant Sceney of the Fairmont Pacific Rim won the Canadian championship and placed sixth in the world. The next year Lauren Mote of Bittered Sling also won Canada (and both her and Grant went down to Mexico City, this site of this year’s finals, to support Royal Dinette‘s Kaitlyn Stewart). And lo and behold, she won.We all sort of know that Vancouver is one of the great cocktail cities in the world, but tonight we raise a glass to Kaitlyn for providing us some further empirical truth.
