5 Local Events to Treat Your Dad To This Week (June 10 – 16)
Gift him a special day with his greatest gift - you.
June 10, 2019
If your dad is a sake buff (or just likes how the little cups make him feel like a giant) you’ll want to grab a couple tickets to this Farm to Bottle Sake Tasting Dinner at Ubuntu Canteen. The dinner showcases sake from Nakashima Sake Brewery, an artisan brewery that has been turning rice to wine since the 1700s. Guests get to sample a half-dozen sakes, including a special gold medal Junmai Daiginjo that is limited to ten bottles in the world. Kampai!
Dad jokes not cutting it? Inspire your pop to up his comedy game at Grad School Improv’s False Creeks and Geeks show, the first in a series of improvised TV dramas set in Totally Unique Secondary School. If there’s one thing you and your dad can bond over, it’s the horror (and hilarity) of high school.
If football is your dad’s jam, take him to the BC Lions Home Opener game this weekend – you can enjoy all the excitement of the game with the additional bonus of your dad’s colourful commentary. Plus, if you get there early, you can snag a couple of Mike Reilly bobbleheads. Two gifts in one? Score!
Walk This Way
Leave your wheels in the garage and experience the West End the old-fashioned way at West End Car Free Day. Your dad will love how it reminds him of how he used to walk to school (uphill, both ways). Seriously, though, he will love the food, live music, art exhibitions, and conspicuous lack of his ultimate foe: traffic.
If you’re looking for a more casual Father’s Day hangout, Pourhouse is serving up a burger and beer special just for dads. Happy and hangry dads alike can be satisfied by a Pourhouse burger (dry aged cache creek beef, aged cheddar, and pork belly, oh my), a sleeve of beer, and a tutorial on how take a Boomerang of your clinking glasses.
