Shakespeare at Sunset

Don’t miss the opening of the 30th season of Bard on the Beach, Vancouver’s esteemed Shakespeare festival. The summer-long spectacular is kicking off with a production of The Taming of the Shrew that is anything but docile – the show is set in the Wild West, and complete with cowboys, a spaghetti western soundscape, and true yeehaw spirit. Special events like forums, musical performances, and talkbacks are dotted throughout the summer (wine Wednesdays should get everyone on board for Bard).

Tunes at Twilight

June 6-9

Get your oohs and ahhs in this week at Music Waste, a live music, art and comedy festival. If you’re up to it, you can make this fest your own personal music challenge—there are over 70 local bands participating in the festival, and if you plan just right, you can check off a good chunk of them all in one weekend. You can even invite different dates to each concert and change outfits on the way, in true sitcom fashion (seriously, no one’s stopping you).

When: Thursday, June 6 – Sunday, June 9

Vegans, rejoice: our city’s first totallymeat-free summer night market is sprouting up this week. Devout and occasionalvegans alike can chow down on plant-based creations from local vendors on TheWaldorf’s outdoor patio. Mooove on, ground beef – we’re, like, totally over(beyond?)  you.

Design Before Dinner

Get a hands-on lesson in Japanese craftsmanship at Inform Interiors’ Japan Handmade workshops. Participants will learn how to make metal tea caddies and wooden vessels, weave wires, and craft sweets in this intensive workshop led by master Japanese craftsmen Takahiro Yagi, Shuji Nakagawa, Toru Tsuji and Zenya Imanishi. The workshops are being offered in the morning, afternoon and early evening and only have 10 available slots per session—get ‘em while they’re hot!
