Laugh Out Loud
Chuckle till you cry at Vancouver-based comedian Chris Griffin’s live show, fittingly titled “I’m not Your Family, Guy.” Griffin is the first Canadian comic in over 40 years to reach the finals at the San Francisco International Comedy Competition and was also awarded the “Rampant Male Shirtlessness Award” (whatever that means) at the JFL Northwest Comedy Awards earlier this year. His two performances on Thursday will be live comedy tapings, so make sure you warm up your giggles.
Watch three unique solo performances from dancer Joe Laughlin in Joe: A Solo Show. In this world premier show, Laughlin will perform choreography from South African choreographer Vincent Mantsoe, local choreographer Amber Frank Burton, and Laughlin’s long-time friend and collaborator, Gioconda Barbuto. Audiences can expect a process of personal, physical, and artistic discovery. Plus some major dance envy.
If you’re tired of lugging a soggy umbrella everywhere you go, boycott the weather and spend your free-time indoors learning how to build the interior of your décor dreams at the Vancouver Fall Home Show. This 4-day long show features Canadian celebs like Todd Talbot from HGTV Canada’s Love It or List It Vancouver, as well as top chefs, designers, and artisans. Check out the Fulgor Milano Cooking Stage for some demos and tasty samples from MasterChef Canada winner David Jorge.
Gala for the Gals
Support cancer awareness and education in the breast way possible at the Wild West Boobyball. This pink-pigmented party raises money for Rethink Breast Cancer, a charity that supports women under 40 who are affected by breast cancer. There’s an oxygen bar, nail bar, and open bar. Plus goodie bags that include Skoah facials, a free yoga class, and snacks – so dust off your cowboy boots for a great cause.
Tap your toes at Goran Bregović and his Wedding and Funeral Band’s celebratory show. Bregović is one of the most famous modern composers and musicians of the Balkans, with his music drawing on traditional Balkan rhythms and soulful Romani folk tunes. Percussion, brass, and animated vocals all come together in a high-energy harmony, and performances like this Bella Ciao rendition are totally infectious.
