Competitive Curry

March 11

Get your fill at the Curry Cup this Monday, Vancouver’s spiciest culinary battle. Six of the city’s top curry creators and three culinary student teams will compete for the esteemed cup (which isn’t filled with curry, apparently, but is still a symbol of victory). A ticket gets you in to taste test the dishes and vote on your favourites, plus a few drinks and some gelato to cool your taste buds.

When: Monday, March 11 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Where: Heritage Hall
Cost: $69

Gobble for Good

March 14

If you needed an excuse to eat out for every meal this Thursday (other than that you’ve worked very hard this week and totally deserve it), we’ve got you covered. Over 50 restaurants from White Rock to Whistler are participating in Dining Out for Life, a tasty fundraiser supporting people living with HIV/AIDS. Restaurants will be donating 25% of their food sales to A Loving Spoonful, an organization that delivers meals, provides nutritional counselling, and coordinates a family pantry program for those affected by HIV/AIDS.

When: Thursday, March 14
Where: Various locations
Cost: Varies

Mouth-Watering Music

Hot Brown Honey is serving up a steaming plate of hip hop politics all the way from Australia. This all-lady musical group packs a powerful punch of sweetness, sass and empowerment. Their World Pollination Tour features some of the most badass multidisciplinary artists from down under tackling some pretty sticky issues – and we’re ready to join the hive.

When: Friday, March 15 – Saturday, March 30
Where: York Theatre
Cost: From $10

Tasty Tricks

Satiate your appetite for illusion, mind-reading, and close-up magic at Camilo the Magician’s Magik! Show. The Vancouver-based magician has had this spectacle in the works for over a year, and promises to take audiences on a journey rather than just performing a list of stunts. This isn’t your rabbit-out-of-hat routine – it’s an impossible adventure.

When: Friday, March 15 – Saturday, March 16 and Friday, March 29 – Saturday, March 30 8:00 p.m.

Irish Eats

March 16-17

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Wildebeest, where chefs are serving up limited-edition food and drinks like rashers and eggs, fish and chips, and boilermakers (a pint of beer with a shot of whisky, of course). They’ll also have Guinness doughnuts, which we can only assume are like the cooler, hardened brother of regular doughnuts. Can you get tipsy from beer-infused confections? There’s only one way to find out.

When: Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17
Where: Wildebeest
