This year, Main Street’s Car Free Day has stretched to 21 blocks of auto-snubbing community festivities. We pick three pit stops for your stroll from Broadway to 30th (or the other way around, if you’d rather head downhill).
Main’s newest upscale veggie restaurant, The Acorn, is teaming up with Vanmag contributing photographer Angela Fama to capture passers-by in the spirit of the late great Foncie Pulice. Find Fama in her mobile studio (an adorable 1970s Boler trailer) in front of The Acorn from 12pm-7pm. Later on in October, your photo could appear alongside Pulice’s work at the Museum of Vancouver’s Capture Photography Festival. 3995 Main Street.
What’s the fun of walking if you can’t show off your feet? Buy a pair of Toms shoes from Twigg&Hottie anytime between noon and 7pm, and local artists Shannon Ross, Taka Sudo, and Florence will “style your sole” to match your inner graffiti artist or flowery free spirit. As always, Toms will match your purchase by donating a new pair of kicks to a child in need. 3671 Main Street.
For a sweet experience, check out the new Main Street Honey Shoppe (soft-opened on June 10). Sample farm-fresh honey from sources like blueberry flowers and fireweed, buy some all-natural, straight-from-the-hive health products, or try a yummy scone topped with creamed clover honey. There will even be a special “bee-beard” display that is as awesomely frightening as the name suggests. 4125 Main Street.
