Local Art Collective

Our city is a mecca for creative types, but earning a reputation as an established artist is no easy feat. Enter Alex Gray, his brother Trevor, and friends Tate Langfield, Ryan Milbourne, and Dillon Pantages. From artists to a retail manager to a law school-bound mental health worker, their common love of the arts sparked a collaboration: get original work out of the dusty corners of studios and onto the streets by wearing it, like a walking canvas.

Together, the five twentysomethings make up Local Art Collective, an up-and-coming Vancouver-based clothing business. LAC encourages local artists to submit work, and chosen designs are printed onto American Apparel tees and tanks. Their first collection, eleven shirts designed by four artists, have a cool, minimalist look (standard cuts in mostly white and grey). We love ‘Mountain Face’ by David Ullock (an abstract arrangement of shapes in blues and yellows) and ‘Party Hands’ by LAC’s own Milbourne (human hands drinking beer and skateboarding atop hairy torsos). All shirts are priced between $30 and $35 and are available for purchase online, with 15% of sales going directly back to the artists.
