Chef Angus An, who trained under chef David Thompson at the world’s only Michelin-starred Thai restaurant (Nahm in London), “shows his skill as both procurer and chef. Pure Thai ingredients blend seamlessly with local ones” at Maenam (Gold). Warm service and a terrific wine list complement a smart menu of classic dishes-chef’s selection makes ordering easy.

Alberni Street’s flashy Pink Elephant (Silver) blends modern Thai tapas with Miami Vice décor and a tropical cocktail list, while Bob Likes Thai Food (Bronze) offers an altogether more low-key experience with an emphasis on authenticity.

Honourable Mentions to SalaThai on Burrard (for its terrific-value lunch menu) and Urban Thai Bistro (ditto).
