GOLD: LA TAQUERIA
Silver: Tacofino Commissary | Bronze: Rinconcito Salvadoreño | Honourable Mentions: El Camino's, Hog Shack Cook House
The line snakes past the mural of the Virgin of Guadalupe at two locations of Gold-winning La Taqueria, where they're patiently queuing for traditional Mexican street tacos like de cachet (braised beef cheeks), pollo con mole (free-range chicken with chocolate mole sauce), and rajas con crema (roasted poblano peppers with creamed corn).
The new bricks-and-mortar location of Tacofino (Silver) serves the same delish tacos dispensed from their two roaming food trucks, plus a few new (and very Vancouver) extras like the chicken karaage taco with avocado and black chili oil, and the gringa with pork al pastor, cheddar curds, and kimchi.
The Drive's breezy Rinconcito Salvadoreño nabbed Bronze for Ana Herrera's Salvadorean pupusas; Honourable Mentions to El Camino's for Mexican sub sandwiches and "killer-good Latin brunch" and Hog Shack for finger-lickin' southern BBQ.
