Best Casual French 2013

GOLD: TABLEAU BAR BISTRO

Silver: La Régalade | Bronze: Les Faux Bourgeois | Honourable Mentions: Pied-à-Terre, Bistro Pastis

Tableau Bar Bistro takes Gold thanks to confident, conscientious cooking and terrific value, especially at lunch; mushrooms on toast doesn’t sound like much but their perfect balance and texture will make you smile. (Look for chef Marc-André Choquette to open a new room this summer at Homer and Smithe.)

West Van’s La Régalade (Silver) and Kingsway’s Les Faux Bourgeois (Bronze) capture the neighbourhood vibe with classic dishes—tarts, braises, steak frites—that tip into festive with a glass of bubbles.

Honourable Mentions to Andrey Durbach’s cozy Pied-à-Terre on Cambie Street and Bistro Pastis on West Fourth, which also showed innovation this year with the success of its Denman Street spot, Le Parisien.
