There are more than a few reasons to be excited about the opening of COS (“Collection of Style”), H&M’s high-fashion sister, in Vancouver. For starters, COS ignores flash trends and focuses on creating modern, functional pieces (think a more tailored Oak and Fort or if Club Monaco went to Emily Carr).

It’s also affordable. Their pieces range between $80 to $175 (full price breakdown below) and the timelessness of the style means you won’t have to shell out more cash for a new coat once the trend fades (their raw denim kimono and trousers should also elicit some Canadian pride). Plus, the striking silhouettes and detailed angles fit in perfectly with the Asian-influenced fashion Vancouverites have steadily embraced.

And in addition to all that, COS regularly collaborates with artists, commissioning Nina Band’s architecturally-inspired prints and a capsule collection made in support of the Agnes Martin retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Fingers crossed a Vancouver collaboration is next!
