YVR Art Foundation
Founded in 1993, the YVR Arts Foundation (YVRAF) is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting BC and Yukon’s First Nation’s artists. Created by the Vancouver Airport Authority, YVRAF assists in sustaining and fostering First Nation’s art through a variety of funding programs. YVRAF is proud to support artists that come from such a rich cultural history and tradition and aims to be an ally to the First Nations community, supporting their work from a foundation of reconciliation, cultural respect and understanding.
Since 2005, YVRAF has awarded over 100 scholarships, grants and awards totaling more than $400,000 to BC and Yukon’s First Nation’s artists. These awards range from mentorship support to the creation of special projects to scholarship funds. In May 2018, YVRAF announced the awarding of $50,000 to 10 emerging and mid-career First Nations artists to pursue their vision through media ranging from woodwork, jewelry making, painting, sculpture, carving and more.
YVRAF is just one of many charities and community organizations supported by YVR, which operates from a unique not-for-profit model that allows it to invest all profits back into improving the airport and supporting the communities it serves. YVR contributes over $1 million of its profits per year towards supporting over 50 community partners such as the Canadian Mental Health Foundation, Covenant House, the Pacific Salmon Foundation, and many more.
