ShuRaku translates loosely to ‘enjoyment of sake’; a description befitting the vibrant Japanese izakaya located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. At ShuRaku Sake Bar & Bistro casual dining is elevated with a menu that uses the highest quality ingredients to combine traditional flavours with contemporary flare under the direction of Mitsuhiro Yamamura. Equally polished is the impressive sake menu, which offers patrons an unparalleled selection from each of Japan’s most reputed sake regions, in addition to an extensive category of premium sake. Vancouver Magazine took note in 2015, nominating ShuRaku for Best Casual Japanese Restaurant in the 26th annual Restaurant Awards.
The city centre location, found at the corner of Granville and Robson, isn’t another hole-in-the-wall sushi spot. A stylish interior design features an open concept kitchen, almost 40 feet of handmade illuminated Japanaese rice paper and an inviting bar area complete with a live-edge maple wood bar, Japanese architectural art inspired wall and reclaimed fir and handmade copper wall scones. With flexible seating that can accommodate large or small groups, ShuRaku makes a great stop from lunch through to late night.
