Granville Island

Granville Island

Granville Island is a treasured Vancouver destination for city-dwellers and tourists alike, attracting millions of visitors a year.

Once an industrial manufacturing area, Granville Island was transformed in the 1970s into the place we know and love today. Home to shops, studios, restaurants, theatre venues, the Famous Public Market, and the Granville Island Hotel, there is so much to see and do in Granville Island’s compact 35 acres.

The island is home to more than 275 businesses and hundreds of artisans and craftspeople. Here, they have space to both make and share their work, creating a unique ecosystem where artists have an affordable place to work while showcasing their craft. You’ll find handcrafted textiles, jewelry, and home décor among craft distilleries and restaurants with spectacular ocean views.

The Public Market is a popular island attraction. Created in 1979 as a market for local, fresh food, it has grown and thrived with fifty independent merchants including bakers, butchers, delis, fresh produce stands, and seafood mongers.

Granville Island is Vancouver’s cultural hub, hosting numerous festivals and events year-round. It is home to the Vancouver International Fringe Fest, Vancouver Writers Fest, the Improv Centre, and Carousel Theatre among many others. You can experience theatrical performances in all genres at Performance Works, the Waterfront Theatre, and Studio 1398.

This bustling island located in the heart of the city is the ideal location to eat, shop and entertain your day away.
